If you’re just deciding between these cars, then the Model Y is probably the best option for most people, simply because it offers almost everything you’ll get in the Model X, at a much lower price.21-22-inch alloy wheels with gold-painted brake callipersġ4.5-inch portrait touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Cockpit processorġ5-inch horizontal touchscreen powered by an AMD Ryzen processorĪndroid Automotive operating system with built-in Google Maps, Assistant and Play Store apps Also, these prices do not take into account things like tax credits and other savings. Tesla is known to change car prices relatively often, so don’t be too surprised if the prices differ when you check the website. The Model Y is much more affordable, starting at just $65,990 to as high as $69,990 for the Performance model. The Model X starts at around $127,470 and can go as high as $139,990 on the performance model. Perhaps the biggest difference between these two cars is their price. Purchasing one of the performance models will reduce the range of the offer.Ĭharging times are also similar, with both cars being able to charge up to 80% in around 15 minutes when connected to a Supercharger station, although this will vary slightly depending on the charging speed offered at the station. The Model X offers an EPA-estimated range of 348 miles on the base model, while the Model Y goes up to 330 miles. Tesla Model Y: BatteryĪlthough the performance is slightly different, the range is pretty similar, though again, it will depend on what options you have. The Model Y can hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds on the base model or 3.5 seconds on the Performance model. The Model X can accelerate faster, with a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds on the base model or 2.5 seconds on the Plaid model. However, the Model X can be upgraded to a tri-motor system that places one motor at each rear wheel and a third motor at the front. Both base models are powered by Tesla’s dual-motor four-wheel-drive system, which provides plenty of power and torque for both cars. The performance offered by these two cars is also similar, but not the same. That means a little more room in the car, including a little more headroom and legroom in the second and third rows. The height differences are also subtle: the Model X is 66.1 inches tall, while the Model Y is 64.3 inches tall. The Model Y is shorter, measuring 184.8 inches long with a 113.8-inch wheelbase. The Model X is slightly longer than the Model Y, with a length of 198.3 inches and a wheelbase of 116.7 inches. If you’re shopping for a Model X or a Model Y, you’re probably at least somewhat concerned about size. Note that with the third row, the Model X can be configured for either six or seven seats, while the Model Y with the third row can only be configured for seven seats. Both cars, however, have two rows of seats by default, with the option of a third row and multiple different options. For example, the Model Y has a minimalist instrument panel design, which some may prefer to the busier look of the Model X. The interior design is also similar, although again, there are some important differences. The Model Y doesn’t have them, which simplifies the layout, but means you won’t benefit from the extra space they provide. ![]() One of the hallmarks of the Model X is its gull-wing doors, which give it added style and can come in handy in tight parking spaces, since the doors swing up instead of out. ![]()
